The first rose to open on the terrace, basking in sunlight reflected from windows across the courtyard. You have to lean close to catch the lightly fruity scent.
This is the most sunlight this plant ever receives but it’s coping with the conditions on offer and growing strongly. The variety is Climbing Iceberg – an image search on that name comes up with a bizarre selection of pictures – a climbing sport of the floribunda Iceberg rose, recommended for less than ideal growing conditions. A smallish pot by a north facing wall certainly fits that description.
