Low, midday sun casts perfect tree shadows on the quay walls along the river Seine. White poplar, horse chestnut, aspen and weeping willow. The sparse, late leaves stand out like field guide illustrations or stylised stencils.

The tree carvings are amazing too.

The smooth bark of the white poplars attracts carved graffiti but the trees don’t seem to suffer from it.
