Alongside the main COP21 conference, Paris is hosting a Climate Summit for Local Leaders, bringing together elected representatives from cities around the world. The summit takes place in the Hotel de Ville on Friday. Meanwhile the parvis outside has been transformed by the city of Paris’s own exhibition of plans and possibilities for a sustainable future.
Alongside the practical plans for an improved cycle network, energy conservation and recycling, architects have contributed visionary images of a green future for the city.
Some look truly imaginative but rooted in reality, like this future view of the Péripherique,
or this image of delivery by tram to city centre stores.
Other images look more like futuristic distractions from the urgent matters at hand. As I overheard one teenager asking his parents, ‘how is looking like a leaf supposed to make a car more energy efficient?’
