Soap bubbles drifted round the carousel, sparkling in the light from hundreds of small bulbs. To the wide-eyed child, clutching tight to the bridle of her white horse, the bubbles probably seemed a natural part of this bright whirl of colour.




This is the roundabout, or manège, in Place de l’Hôtel de Ville, early on a weekday evening.  It’s a temporary feature of the Place but one that lingers on beyond the Christmas season.  It may be gone by Easter, but maybe not.
