Daisies on a grassy bank in the Jardin du Luxembourg last week. These spontaneous wildflowers, beneficiaries of the council’s no weedkiller policy, somehow seem more springlike than the neat rows of bedding plants.
Most of the garden chairs are still stacked by the bandstand but there are always some chairs left out, for people who want to soak up winter sunshine.
The crocuses are garden plants but they have naturalised and now behave like wildflowers. Their flowering follows the day length and the weather and can’t be hurried.
