The small, round topped alcove is empty, its original purpose maybe long forgotten.
At first glance this looks like a blocked up doorway but was it an arch or a circle?
A sturdy pulley fitted in the arch of an alcove looks like the head of a well, yet the stone at the bottom shows no sign of where the well might have been.
This wall needed some extra support.
Work in progress on repair and restoration. The ancient wooden beam supports a heavy load of stone above.
Ancient stones with a new lease of life. This wall has recently been cleaned and repointed.
Six old stone walls show changes over the centuries and a few mysteries. Just ordinary walls with a story to tell.

Judith, these pictures of walls are enchanting for their possible stories. I like to think that every old structure absorbs the past. It can be visible like it is here where function has fallen into mystery. Or it can be a feeling when one chooses to pause and acknowledge it, to lap it up.
