It’s a clever piece of street art but I can’t make out the story. Has the hand just pulled up the the strange, rooty individual or is it about to plant him? The artist, Mr Pee is also a professional illustrator. When not illustrating children’s reading books, he seems to specialise in enigmatic characters with a tendency towards vegetation.
This bookshop on the Rive Gauche attracts (or maybe invites) street artists. As well as the arm there’s a familiar mosaic character over the window, with the addition of a propellor, and an ‘audio surveillance zone’ ear among other decorations.
The smart, gold ear reminded me of another one I spotted in Butte aux Cailles earlier in the year. I don’t know whether the juxtaposition with the poster for ‘Je Vous Écoute’ was planned or fortuitous.
The ears are the work of Urban Solid, two Italian artists who visited Paris last November. Their 3D installations are eye-catching but personally I’m glad there aren’t too many of them about!
