The magnolias are coming into flower and the fountain has been turned on in the gardens of the Palais Royal. The colonnaded walkways of the three hundred year old palace surround a dramatic landscape with long allées of precisely pruned trees and wide gravel walks. The sixteen identical magnolia trees are positioned with perfect symmetry. Despite its formality, this public garden is a great place for strolling or dozing in the sun, a game of boules or a turn on the climbing frame. This is city living at its most civilised.

I love the splendour of magnolias in full flower. So much energy going into the branch tips. Like candelabra.
