In the Jardin du Luxembourg this afternoon a brisk breeze was keeping the boats moving.
First introduced to the gardens in 1888, the model boats are supplied and managed under a concession from the French Senate, whose seat is in the Palais de Luxembourg. The boats are a tried and tested design and rarely capsize. They have been made, repaired and hired out by the Paudeau family since 1922.
The latest version is rather smaller and simpler than these classic boats.
