Sunlit buildings against dark grey clouds, blue green water and spring green leaves; a grey ribbon of tarmac turning ‘green’ for the day, bikes, scooters and pedestrians only.

Sparkling water and crisp shadows; drifts of green catkins on rough, grey paving.

A glimpse of green through a shady gateway; stone paving glistening on a grey, wet day.

A ‘green’ message high on a grey wall; One planet, One chance, Paradise is here.

Beyond the Window Box started as an escape from city life and has turned into a celebration of it.  My Paris is an ever growing network of back streets and bike lanes, tree-lined quays and canal tow paths, wide open parks and hidden gardens, markets and covered passages.     Looking up, my view of Paris takes in carved stone heads and wrought iron railings, faded lettering and brand new street art.  Looking down, I’m distracted by reflections in puddles, plants in paving cracks and the subtle charms of cast iron drain covers.  Taking time to reflect, I try to make sense of some of the history that hangs heavy in the city streets, royal whims and revolutionary fervour, war, occupation and regeneration.  Each individual’s perspective on city life is different.  What’s yours?
