More than two hundred and fifty people took part in the community arts workshops that made the mosaic decorating the belvedere in Parc de Belleville.  The overall design shows signs of careful planning. When you look closer you can see the individuality of each leaf on the trees and each square in the grids.

This is street art at its most official – the project was sponsored by the town halls of the 20th arrondissement and the city – but that doesn’t mean it lacks spontaneity.  It allows people who would never take up a spray can to make their mark on their local environment in a lasting, creative way.  After three years the mosaic looks (mostly) good as new.
