On Saturday the the river level started to fall and it was the day of the annual Carnaval Tropical. That’s not world news so, in case you’d got the impression that the people of Paris were all anxiously watching the muddy waters of the river Seine this weekend, here’s the antidote.



This is a taste of the first quarter of the parade, en route from the Hôtel de Ville to Place de la République.  The theme was ‘sports and cultures of the world’.  My camera ran out of charge long before we reached the contrasting styles of Indonesia, Bolivia and Brazil and before the sun made a fleeting appearance.
