We arrived at Berwick upon Tweed in the dark and stepped off the train into pouring rain. Following careful instructions, we found our way under a shadowy arch in the town walls, over glistening cobbles to the end of the quay road and through a grey gate to Old Lifeboat Cottage. Just before dawn I woke to the sound of waves crashing against the walls of the building, accompanied by a chorus of gulls. Several hours later when I woke again the sea sounds might have been just a dream. This is the Saturday breakfast view from the cottage window.
The bright horizon and glistening sand soon gave way to wind blown drizzle, followed by steady rain. Here’s the high tide view when we arrived back from a wet and windy walk in the afternoon.
Sunday morning dawned bright and calm.
By breakfast time a blue, cloudless sky was reflected in the receding water.
Late afternoon with the tide on the turn after a beautiful, bright and breezy day.
Evening light on a falling tide…..
a calm, clear start to another day….
and swans on a falling tide again.
