Servants’ entrance or built in sentry box?  Bright yellow is a conspicuous colour in most settings but here, outshone by the gold painted railings, it looks quite subtle.  This pair of narrow doors (one inside the fence, one outside) offer a convenient route through the base of the statue to anyone who has the right pair of keys.




These photos were taken, especially for Thursday Doors, on a visit to the Chateau de Versailles last week.  You can see the sun emblem of le Roi-Soleil, Louis XIV, in the shadow over the door.
