This unfinished apartment building on Quai d’Austerlitz is sure to catch the eye of passers by. The balcony and window screens change colour as you approach, thanks to a material known as dichroic laminated glass.
In full sun the glass reflects yellow light and casts violet shadows but seen at a shallow angle in the shade, tints of orange and turquoise appear. On the sides of the building, where the design lines are simple, the colour change effects are intriguing but subtle. The weirdly shaped balconies at the front are something else. Fortunately the building faces onto the river, so no one lives directly opposite. The novelty of colour changing neighbours might wear off after a while.
