The cat’s ears are alert, following the animal’s gaze beyond the picture. It’s a familiar pose of a domestic moggy, even though this 2013 mural by C215 is six storeys high.
Up above the cat there’s a second pair of watchful eyes, a symbolic Marianne by American artist Shepard Fairey painted in June this year; impressive but rather detached.
Down at ground level, just across the street, another pair of eyes offer a watchful challenge.
When C215 (or Christian Guémy) isn’t traveling the world he returns to his roots in Paris and continues to stencil portraits (both human and feline) in overlooked odd corners around the city. This face has real character. I’ll be looking out for more.
