It looks like these windows have been bricked up. But why?

Sooty marks suggest there may have been a fire in the house. Clearly it’s empty now. It was the contrasting colours on the inside and outside of the shutters that caught my eye. I wonder what’s behind the ones that are closed?

I wondered that too! Pity that such a lovely building has been a victim of fire.

I don’t know about France, but over here landlords play all sort of tricks to force tenants out of their houses (because they want to convert them to luxury flats). I saw a video of a house in Berlin where tenants found their windows blocked exactly like this after vandalism hadn’t done the trick. Now there’s a new law in certain areas to prevent such practices. AirnB is also frowned upon now because of the housing shortage.

love this…the looking-up angle, the collective of weathered-worn colors of shutters against the backdrop of the building’s color, and then add the brick-up facet…
