The lawns of Paris have settled in for their winter rest.  ‘Pelouse en repose’ read the notices in all the city parks and gardens.  The signs in the Luxembourg Gardens (managed by the French Senate) are more blunt but multilingual.

It wasn’t a day for picnicking on the grass in any case.  The boating pond was frozen and most visitors were walking briskly or jogging round the gravel paths.   Some of the chairs have been packed away for the winter but plenty are left out for hardier souls and sunny corners.
