The sky cleared just before sunset yesterday. In Parc Martin Luther King the ponds doubled the evening light, reflecting the bare branches of the trees among the new shoots of the flag irises emerging from the water.
This distinctive park with its bold lines and naturalistic planting is the focal point of the new Clichy-Batignolles eco-quartier. Unusually the park was established before work started on the surrounding housing, flagging up the intention to make this new neighbourhood something out of the ordinary.
To the north side of the development the housing is now mostly occupied, to the south a forest of cranes, silhouetted against the evening sky, shows the extent of the building still in progress, while the park forms a peaceful oasis in the centre.
