In the narrow side streets of St-Germain-des-Prés grand paneled doors lead to hidden courtyards and upper floor flats. Shop doors, set in all glass frontages, look flimsy and inconspicuous by comparison.

Wow! Those lead-in doors are amazing! I also really like the red doors at the bottom.

I’ve not been able to find out whether the room above the doors was built in from the start or whether the original doors filled the whole arch. The facade looks all of a piece.

Yes, I’ve learnt a lot while researching interesting doors and reading about other people’s discoveries.

Those red doors are gorgeous, and so emblematic of Paris.

Waaaaah! That first one is just glorious. Another vote here for that red one too. Give some good ole solid wooden doors over flimsy glass any day.
Excellent post 🙂

Thanks, Norm. You’d be lost all day in St-Germain if you studied every grand door it has to offer.

First door really showed the scale of the size of the door with the pedestrian walking past but I noticed that all of those doors seemed to be huge. Very nice collection!

Yes, the doors are all oversized, some more so than others. I took photos of some much larger ones on the same outing but the portrait form pictures didn’t fit the page well!
