It’s holiday season and the streets of Butte-aux-Cailles are very quiet. Lots of shutters are closed, showing off subtle colour combinations and making it easier to photograph doors without seeming to peer in windows.
A red door with mouse ears…
Subtle decoration and an old door awaiting the ‘service encombrants’
Under renovation
Colour contrasts at the physiotherapist’s – shame about the wheelie bin.
Neighbourly shades of green and yellow – a perfect match for the yellow lidded recycling bins
Subtle monochrome, apart from the bins
A post for Thursday Doors.

enjoyed the offering, esp. the one at the physiotherapist’s. I wish I had the courage to move bins and other objects that unsettle an otherwise good photo (Don’t get me going on the electrical wires). I have practicing the habit of doing a quick run-by photo click of windows for fear of getting confronted for invading someone’s privacy. 🙂

I used to try to leave bins out of street photos but have finally decided they are just part of the street scene. They are a pretty unforgiving colour though.

The photo of the empty street is my favourite. It perfectly illustrates your idea of the holiday season. If it were not for the cars in the other street, I would think it was a picture of a ghost town. And you are right, the bins belong there.

Parisians do take their holidays seriously. Outside the main tourist areas many streets feel almost deserted.

I like that first door and the contrast between it and the completely different garage door next to it. I like that red door, too.

Thanks for your comment. My eye was drawn to the first door by the way the sun was catching the carved woodwork – such a contrast to the garage door.
