Brightly coloured banners, red predominant among them, make their autumn appearance on the Paris streets. Parisians take their summer holidays seriously and that means saving protest marches and demonstrations until after la rentrée. Today tens of thousands of people were on the streets to protest against proposed reforms to labour laws.
Apart from the inevitable skirmishes between a small group of black clad agitators and the riot police, the mood of the protest was relaxed and peaceful even when the march ground to a halt because of trouble up ahead.
Seasoned protestors know that demonstrations involve a lot of waiting.

I also grabbed some protestors this month – much different vibe as our folks wore t-shirts and had signs (no flags)
And U are right about the waiting – enjoyed your post – merci

Parisian demos seem to be big on flags rather than placards. The flags are good for looking heroic!

Yeah – the flags make more of a visual statement too! And I just heard on the news (our local news) that 19 protestors were arrested this week – ones for the same cause (Atlantic pipeline) and I wonder if they are the ones we met (and photographed) – hm
