A visitor to  Casa Botlló walks and climbs through the layers of a fantastical sculpture but this house, designed by Antoni Gaudi, is full of imaginative practical details too.

The double light well which illuminates the centre of the house is tiled in pale blue and white on the lower floors, where sunlight is lacking, shading to dark blues on the sunny upper floors. Similarly wide windows let in light on the shady lower floors whereas the windows on the floors above are progressively smaller.  The final staircases to the roof terrace climb through plain white plastered towers with wonderful sculptural curves.
