Most of the people in my photos are strangers. A camera is my companion on my solitary exploration of Paris streets and parks. If I’m out and about with family or friends for a change recording the moment takes second place to enjoying the company. When I first started making regular solo expeditions with a camera I tried to avoid including unknown people in my images but city photos without human interest tell an incomplete story. As passersby strayed into my field of view they often improved the picture.
This week’s photo challenge A Face in the Crowd has sent me happily rummaging in my archive. The challenge is not to pick out an identifiable face in the crowd as the title might suggest but rather to explore the unknown stories that anonymous figures in a photo might hint at. Just one figure can transform a photo, two or more may tell a different story.
