On Sunday morning there are no model sailing boats for hire in the Jardin du Luxembourg.

Instead the pond hosts a flotilla of mostly home made boats, ranging from simple bath toys to intricately detailed historical models.

Some elaborate and beautifully finished boats are launched with great care by their builders.

Others are clearly a project to be shared with a grandchild, providing grandad gets to play too.

There’s something mesmerizing about watching the miniature vessels silently criss-crossing the sunlit water – a fascination for young and old alike.
