Look up, look down, look into unlikely corners; there are many surprising animals to be seen on the streets of Paris. Some, like the wide-eyed rabbit, are simply sweet, some are bizarre and some distinctly unsettling. Like the real and mythical beasts of a medieval bestiary (or bestiare in French) these street art beasts have stories to tell.
The little black cat appears in many overlooked corners round the city – a half-hidden treat for those who keep their eyes open – October 2018
Cats with style – October 2018
Everything is not as it seems – the cat and even the hole in which it is resting are simply paper – Paris 3e -October 2018
A hedgehog writing a love letter – who can resist smiling at this one?
ARDIF’s creatures are a strange and skillful hybrid of real animals and imaginary mechanisms..
intriguing and somehow unsettling.
The elephant’s party is simply bizarre – open the full size image and click for a closer view to find the tree frog, the dragonfly and the stag beetle
A giant beaver made from throw away plastic is definitely an animal with a message – it’s the work of Portuguese artist Artur Bordalo
A lion with a rose – what’s your story?
The savannah animals of Mosko and associates are proudly realistic – a strange contrast with Anis’ flowery curves
Snakes in the urban jungle or plants with teeth?
Crocodile teeth in St Ouen…
and on rue Tolbiac – some of Bault’s animals would be right at home among the mythical beasts of a medieval bestiary
The rebellious skateboarding Nourfs created by Pimax are often seen with a spray can or paint roller to hand…
but these three have another story to tell

A truly very nice collection, can’t remember to have seen these crazy creations when being in Paris in 2007.

I’m glad you enjoyed the collection. These pictures are mostly from streets away from the main tourist sites.

The hedgehog has appeared in the blog before but I thought he deserved a second outing. One of my favourites!

Fabulous post. I really like those flamingos. I remember you did a post about flamingos before. I wonder if this is the same artist.

Flamingos seem to be popular with Paris street artists – I have quite a collection of flamingos by different artists! This photo isn’t a new one so I may have posted it before. I think it’s a collaboration – the mechanical bird on the right is by Ardif, the flowery one on the left isn’t his style.
