Two blasts of a horn sound from up the river as the Dutch ship Eems Solar leaves Tweed Dock.
It’s not high tide yet but the light is fading – maybe they are keen to get to sea before dark.
There’s only a narrow channel between Spittal Point and Berwick Pier so large ships are guided in and out of harbour by the port’s pilot cutter.
Job done, the pilot turns for home…
while the departing ship passes the lighthouse, gives one last blast on its horn…
and heads out to sea under darkening clouds. Next stop Hellvik in Norway in two days time.
