Yesterday’s post looked back over a year in Paris. Today’s photos are an account of a year in the making of our new Spittal garden, a backward glance but also a glimpse of the future.
January – a few sticks in the snow are the only sign of a garden in progress
February – I planted the second row of fruit trees in a mild week, then it snowed again
March – the garden taking shape
May – apple blossom
June – waist high grass waiting for the scythe and roof repairs on the stable
July – dill and ‘black’ poppies
August – apples and beans
September – cosmos and more dill
October – autumn colour on the new beech hedge
November – rudbeckia flowers standing strong in wind and rain
December – waiting for spring again
I’m looking forward to putting down roots in the coming year. Whatever your plans for 2019 I wish you fulfillment in them. Happy New Year!

Happy gardening! It all looks wonderful, and a huge contrast to your recent life.

What a gorgeous set up you have there! I’m so excited for you to roll into a gorgeous fruit abundance and those little trees come into their own! Cheers to a bountiful 2019!

Thanks, Melissa. We only have a small, hilly field but the topsoil is rich and deep, the climate is mild and summer days are long here so I’m hopeful of good crops to come. The next eight trees arrive next week!
