At low tide a strong south-westerly wind was scouring the beach at Spittal Point…

 

 

driving the sand towards the sea.

 

 

Under a blue sky the distant swell was topped with white horses…

 

 

but at the water’s edge the waves were blown back on themselves and seemed to be struggling to reach the beach.
