As the tide fell the wind dropped and the sun broke through the clouds, illuminating the drifting sea foam on the glistening sand. An hour earlier the view had been very different.
Foaming waves hissing gently on the beach as the tide falls
Small mounds and rafts of foam skittering in the breeze on the wet sand
Looking south the foaming surf seems to reach to the horizon
Earlier, under heavy cloud, a strong wind had been driving the surf up the beach, gathering sand as it rolled
Looking out to sea it was hard to tell where the water ended and the foam covered sand began
Below the wall of the promenade the foam was piled three feet deep, quivering in the wind

After I took the earlier photos it had started to rain heavily. By the time the sun came out much of the foam had simply vanished.
