After a sharp frost on Saturday night, the dahlias and nasturtiums have turned to mush. The brightest colour in the garden now comes from the two small amelanchiers. On each twig leaves in brilliant shades of orange and pink mingle with others that are still summer green.
The young beech hedge is still low and gappy but the bold tints of its leaves gives a foretaste of autumns to come. A welcome boost of colour on grey November days.

Ooh, we’re not much further south than you, but yet to have our first frost, though it IS cold.

England goes a surprisingly long way north on the east coast. We’re north of the Isle of Arran and most of southern Scotland here!

I guess that’s so. You feel near neighbours though.
