Early evening on Spittal beach. The clouds are already tinged with pink.
Looking south along the deserted beach, Lindisfarne and Bamburgh castles stand out clearly in the distance. In the photo they only appear as tiny bumps on the horizon.
Walking north towards Spittal Point, the sunlight catches the white tops of the waves and the white bellies of the sanderlings, scurrying in the shallows as the tide comes in.
