Sun breaking through the clouds over Cocklawburn beach.
Sky reflections shimmer on wet sand.
Clouds receding towards the distant horizon emphasise the sense of space.
An image of wind-whipped surf tells the imagination to conjure up the sound of breaking waves but only words (or a sound recording) can add the song of skylarks.
For two miles along the cliff path from Spittal this morning, our walk was accompanied by the sound of waves crashing below us to the left and the clear, wavering song of the larks climbing high into the sky over the farmland to our right. The experience of such wild beauty feels a precious luxury, now more than ever.
The last photo is the view looking back north, towards Spittal. If you click twice for a closer view you can just see the Berwick lighthouse in the distance beyond the headland.
