Early morning on Spittal beach on a beautiful summer’s day.
The tide is just starting to fall.
It’s only half past seven but the sun is already high in the sky – it rose three hours ago.
As the tide falls, bands of rock emerge from the waves.
Time to head home for breakfast.
(Berwick lighthouse, which appears in the first and last photos, is currently obscured by scaffolding as its red and white paint is being renewed)

Much as I love our local landscape, these posts of your shore always bring a pang of envy. Is that beach of yours never crowded with trippers and ice cream vans?

It’s true Spittal beach (like most of the Northumberland coast) could rarely be described as crowded. It does tend to be chilly, though. The Spittal ice cream van sells a locally made soft scoop that seems to be designed for an air temperature of less than 18°!
