Walking on Spittal beach, I’m torn between gazing out to sea or looking down at the ever changing patterns of sand, ripples and pebbles. There’s a lot to see looking down on a beach or in a forest but some nice surprises looking down on a city pavement too.
Sofia’s theme for the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge this week is Looking Up/Down. I’ve enjoyed trawling through old posts to find images that fit this theme, finding so many old favourites that I’ve had to split Up and Down into two posts. In was you missed it, here’s Looking Up.

These are all lovely, but I never tire of your beautiful studies of the sand, stones and waves of Spittal beach.

I feel I’ve taken far too many photos of Spittal beach so it’s good to hear that you’ve not tired of them!

Wow! These are all wonderful, all of them. The sandstone and pebble one, the Milan Cathedral, they are truly magical. Thank you so much for sharing them with us.

Beautiful beach photos, especially that opening one! And I love the shot from Milan’s cathedral roof, although it messed a little with my head as somehow the people in the foreground look more like pedestrians on a street than fellow rooftop visitors!!

There are several layers of walkways on the way to the cathedral roof. The photo was taken from behind a parapet on the roof itself – I didn’t look straight down for long!

I’ve been up there myself but I didn’t remember exactly how it looked – maybe I didn’t look down for long enough!

We love beaches as well, particularly the structures that the water forms in the sand. We could watch them for ever. In a way it shows on a small level how the surface of our planet is formed.

Wonderful photos. I liked the beach photos a lot, especially the one with the pebble. Great photos of pavements too.
