After last night’s wild weather, a lot of the sand from Spittal beach had migrated from the beach onto the grass banks and the promenade…
into the prom shelter and into neighbouring gardens.
Down on the beach a layer of fine, dry sand was still heading south fast, driven by a cold north wind. Most dogs had persuaded their owners that they would really prefer to stay off the beach today.

It was pretty wild here, but it seems that you tough Northumbrian types really bore the brunt. Hope your community and homes came through intact.

Thanks, Margaret. Spittal was looking a bit battered today – several roofs with large holes or missing chimneys, lots of wrecked sheds and greenhouses. We came off quite lightly with one chimney pot lost and a couple of aging fence panels demolished. Hope all’s well with you.

We were fine. Just chilly, thanks.

Hello Alison, Yes, Spittal did look a bit battered after Friday night. Thankfully no one hurt, only buildings damaged. The power cuts we escaped have been affecting the water supplies today. We’ve had a quick lesson in how much we take good tap water for granted and look forward to supplies resuming tomorrow! Hope all’s well with you. Judith x
