The almond blossom was nearly over by the time I got my camera out. Warm sun coaxed the first flowers open in early April. Cold, grey weather kept the rest of the buds tight shut for two weeks more. Spring advances by leaps and bounds, then slips backwards for a few days. One calm, warm day we’re lingering over coffee by the pond. The next it’s back to winter coat and gloves. Whatever the long term trends, unpredictability is in the nature of a British spring.
Yesterday the first apple blossom opened to a mild, sunny morning. Today has been cold, grey and windy. There’s sunshine forecast for tomorrow. Perhaps I’ll catch up with spring again.

Oh, I so love almond blossom and never see it here. Is it in your garden?

Our one almond tree is doing remarkably well in the sunniest corner of the garden. Not an obvious choice for Northumberland. We were pleased with a crop of six nuts last year!

Lovely photos of lovely blossom. You are not wrong about the weather! I am beginning to regret switching off the underfloor heating.

I think my memory of past springs is selective. The backwards weather always takes me by surprise!

Spring in Philadelphia has been crazy too—two days last week when the temperature was in the 70s F (21 C roughly), then a freeze warning for the suburbs the next day. The low in our neighborhood was 35 F (1.67 or so C). Ruth is just planting tomato plants this afternoon, and we’re kind of holding our breath.

Fingers crossed for Ruth’s tomatoes. Ours are still small seedlings huddling in the warmth of the porch.

Lovely blossom! The spring seems to be going backwards down here in London too – warm jackets are back on and so is the heating 😉

I’m not sure I’ve ever (knowingly) seen an almond blossom! Beautiful! Thank you 🙂 Hope you have a glorious week ahead, regardless of what the weather throws your way!

The clouds thinned today and the sun broke through for a while. Just a bit of brightness makes so much difference. All the best for your week ahead too.
