Distant tree trunks fade into the mist, giving an air of mystery to Goody Patchy woods.
Most of the trees in this narrow belt of woodland are not much more than saplings, colonisers which took root along a disused railway track and around an old quarry.
On old OS maps, from the 1850s to the 1940s there is no sign of woodland here. The trees may only be a few decades old but on a misty day there’s a hint of something ancient. These youngsters aren’t the first trees to grow here.
