Japanese maple in the Passage de l’Ancre
Here’s another view of the Passage de l’Ancre with Photinia putting out new shoots in the foreground. The small, white flowers of the Photinia are carried in large clusters, but it is the bright colors of the young leaves that are the most conspicuous feature of this hardy shrub.
As you walk along the passage the general impression is of dark, glossy foliage. Pausing to look closer, there is actually quite a wide variety of different shrubs and potted trees including camellia, cherry laurel (Prunus laurocerasus), box and olive. I think there might also be a magnolia in there somewhere.
