The muted tones of the painting echo the butter yellow walls and terracotta tiles of the exhibition space. The large canvas is hung low to the ground so it looks as though you could step right into it. Art and reality in harmony.
The first floor halls of the Château de Chambord are currently given over to an impressive exhibition of artworks collected by the late French president Georges Pompidou. I find people photographing exhibitions annoying so I rarely take pictures in galleries myself but this 1950 painting by Bernard Buffet looked so inviting that I broke my own rule. The trouble is I now wish I’d taken pictures of some of the other pieces I’d like to remember better…

Wow, I love it. I too try not to take pictures in indoor galleries, it somehow feels a bit wrong. Sometimes you just have to though.
