A roof top view from the St Malo ramparts on a cloudy morning.  Colours of slate and stone softened by alga and lichen.  The much patched, tile roof could be an illustration of over-optimistic make do and mend.  (The salesman’s ‘before’ picture for the ‘after’ on the left). Looking closer at the pattern of old and new tiles, the roof starts to resemble something more organic – snakeskin or strange tree bark perhaps.  Worn but serviceable, there’s life in it yet.
