The regional flag may be black and white but there’s no doubting Brittany’s preference for blue when it comes to doors, window shutters and gates.
This small selection of the blue doors around St Goustan is a post for Thursday Doors.

Very nice! My favorite color has always been blue, so I find the doors and shutters quite attractive.

Swooooon! I love all that stone and blue wood — all the better so faded and worn. Wonderful collection 🙂

I love the handsome blue doors. Blue doors are not something you see here so it’s quite a treat. 🙂

The blue looks lovely against the stone. Beautiful shots.

Thanks for your comment. The yellow tints in the stone do seem to set off the faded blues perfectly, or is it the other way round?

love the atmosphere around these doors and walls in Bretagne. The wisteria is the perfect finishing touch:)

I love those doors. Do you happen to know if the colour blue has any special significance in Brittany? In Spain it is traditionally used to keep the witches at bay. I don’t know if they still believe in them, but they keep painting doors and windows blue.

I don’t know whether blue doors are supposed to have any protective effect in Brittany but the colour is certainly long established in the region. There’s even a special Breton word for a particular shade of sea-blue-green that is supposed to be untranslatable!

The Breton blue-green is ‘glaz’. You’ll find a short discussion of its particularity on Wiktionnaire.
