The famous bistro by Canal St Martin is framed by a red motorbike and a red door, caught in low winter sun.
Hôtel du Nord was the inspiration for a prize-winning novel by Eugène Dabit, which in turn inspired the 1938 film of the same name by Marcel Carné. The building was threatened with demolition for a road building project in the 1970s but was saved by local campaigners.
