From the massive doorways on the east of Le Louvre the axis leads across the Cour Carrée, under the arches of the central block, through the glass entrance pyramid and on to through the triumphal arch and the Jardin de Tuilleries. From this angle it sometimes seems as if the Cour Carrée is just an incidental feature on a grand progression. For the moment the view is turned in on the courtyard itself, thanks to the strange reflections of the mirrored sculpture installed in the central pool, Panorama by Eva Jospin.
The reflections on the far side of the structure give a surreal version of the view through the archways to the pyramid….
while a door in the side invites you to walk through the looking-glass facades into a hidden landscape.

These are great pictures. Reminds me I haven’t been to Paris for 10 years!

I guess you’ll notice quite a lot of changes when you next have a chance to visit the city. Sadly all the riverside improvements – completed and in progress – are currently under water.

Yes, I’ve just been reading about that. And they are closing the Louvre to move artefacts out of harms way. Do hope water subsides soon.

It looks as though Paris will avoid a major flood but towns on the river Loing, south of Paris, have been less fortunate.

There was a lot of flooding in Nw England around Christmastime. Many people still not back in houses and businesses still shut. I really feel for these people.

Great funky reflections! When we were there with our kids, we were dead tired when coming out, since we had to stand in line for 2 hrs. waiting to get in! My teens were great though:)

Judith, this is a wonderful set and even though I love the doors, I love the reflections even more. Hope the rain and flooding stops before I head over in July.

Pretty awesome doors and buildings regardless if you are looking directly at them or through a reflection.
